Description

This special Katana/Shinken is distinguished by the outstanding quality of the blade. The top selected carbon steel is used on the blade by a modern steel manufacturing(C105W).  This Carbon Steel Katana Sword is not only optimal for the technical Iaido training but also for cutting exercises called Tameshigiri.

This Carbon Steel Katana Sword is certainly carrying the optimum for a monosteel sword.  Traditionally manufactured and hardened in a loam coat, the hardness in the blade back(Mune) is located at 40 degree HCR and the cutting edge(Ha) has a hardness of about 60 degree HCR.  The Hamon is the real thing, not the sandblasted one. The cutting edge is very flat and very sharp forged. The blade is in default Habaki zone (Moto-Kasane) approximately  8 mm thick, weighing approximately 1100 gram for 2.50 shaku without Saya.  The blade is very durable and designed for the classical cutting exercises, Tameshigiri of rice straw mats or bamboo green suitable.
Features
  • Blade made of extra durable carbon steel that is hardened with the traditional method
  • Suitable for cutting rice straw mats, green bamboo or similar materials
  • Double Mekugi for maximum security
  • Brass Habaki
  • Genuine horn Koiguchi
  • Sori approximately 1.5 cm
  • Japanese brass Fuchi/Kashira
  • Japanese brass Menuki
  • Japanese iron Tsuba

high carbon monosteel katana November 1, 2011
Reviewer: jesus tamesis from Quezon City, n/a Philippines
Its an impressive shinken. Has good balance and cuts clean using tatami omote. My sons and I like it very much and we are thinking of getting the one made of tamahagane.

Very well forged November 1, 2011
Reviewer: John O'Mara from London, United Kingdom
As said already great balance,  quite a light sword even without groove and at 8mm, beautiful fittings and very nice to have chosen them.  The hamon was not as prominent as expected, possibly due to whatever polish the sword was given, was slightly improved by a clean and oil but really it's just nice to see an authentic hamon. Probably one of if not the best none-japanese option in the uk!

Very Satisfied November 1, 2011
Reviewer: Bruce from United States
Solid construction. Fierce blade. Beautiful hamon. On mine, there is one flawed area in the polish of the steel; The defect is tiny, but noticeable.
